Windows 8 unveiled at D9 conference running the familiar Metro UI

We don't generally write about any other operating system especially desktop operating system here but this is a special occasion. I won't go into detail since there are tons of bloggers working their ass off to compile a list so escaping the traffic seems to be a good idea. Microsoft unveiled Windows 8 at D9 conference tonight and guess what? It's the familiar Windows phone Metro UI layer plus it can run the typical PC applications, just what I needed. Ina fried from All Things Digital has a good overview.

Complete PR from Microsoft Press Pass embedded below:

Below I have embedded the video of Microsoft's Jensen Harris, Director of PM Windows user experience, previewing the next generation of Windows Operating system codenamed ' Windows 8':

What do you think - Will this be enough to tackle the king of tablet OS i.e. the iPad? Will it be enough to get Windows back on track?

More details will be unveiled at developer event BUILD which will be held September this year. Pretty sure you are just as excited as I am.
