Nokia finalizes Qualcomm chipsets for upcoming Windows Phone devices

Reuters is reporting that Nokia have made up their mind to use Qualcomm in their upcoming Windows Phone handsets. This doesn't come as a surprise considering Windows Phone 7 is only running on Qualcomm chips right now which sure will expand in near future.

More from the Nokia spokesperson:

The first Nokias based on Windows Phone will have the Qualcomm chipset," said a Nokia spokesman.
Our aim is to build a vibrant ecosystem around Nokia and the Windows Phone OS and with that intent we are naturally continuing discussions with a number of chipset suppliers for our future product portfolio," he said.
Another thing he added was that one of the companies involved in the whole process was ST - Ericcson. Forbes today reported that Nokia devices would utilize ST Ericcson, joint venture of STMicroelectronics and Ericsson, chipsets for Windows Phone 8. Now wait..What about Windows Phone 7.5? Qualcomm chips for WP 7.5 and ST Ericcson chipsets for WP 8? In the forbes article, Carlo bozotti, Chief Executive of STMicroelectronics, stated that  it will be one of the two key chip suppliers for Nokia. More from the Forbes article :

The first ST-Ericsson chipset that will appear in a Nokia Windows Phone is the U8500, a sophisticated dual-core system-on-a-chip that has been favorably compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon line because it offers multiple wireless technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a fast, built-in HSPA+ modem in a compact format. Later Nokia Windows Phones – the company is planning to release 12 Windows Phone devices over the course of 2012 – will run on future versions of the U8500, said Bozotti.

You know what? According to me, this confirms the fact that Nokia will be shipping the first Nokia devices with WP 7.5 and not WP 8. All I can say is that this is very confusing. Help me out here, would you?
